Ignite Portland 4

November 14, 2008 Leave a comment

Went to Ignite Portland 4 last night. My company was good enough to give some sponsor money to the event. I really love that my company can give some money to support local events where possible. I’m pretty proud that we’ve sponsored all of the events since the first Ignite Portland at Weiden and Kennedy.

Typically each sponsor is given a chance to speak for a short time in front of the audience, but this time the organizers asked for a video. I had a great time pulling together our video for the event. We have a ton of great people Extensis who have a good sense of humor and were willing to hit themselves in the head with a product box for the cause. Here’s the result:

Overall the crowd was very respectful and had a great time with all of the presentations and sponsor videos. To those who cheered our video, and those of other sponsors, thanks! To those who ‘boo-ed’ the Microsoft short recognition, you are disrespectful twats and a pox on your house. They were kind enough to sponsor the event that was FREE to you, so suck it up and act at least a little dignified – no matter what you think of their products. Didn’t your mother tell you that if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all?

Coeur d’Alene vacation

August 18, 2008 Leave a comment

Lillian and I went to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho with Casey, Jin, Eric and Emily this past weekend to visit Casey’s father, Jon, and stepmother, Nan. It was a great trip. Jon and Nan are always so welcoming, and have such a beautiful home and loads of fun things to do.

We rode on a horse buggy, spent a ton of time floating in the lake, and did a little kayaking. All in all a super weekend!

I’ve put up a few short videos of our weekend.

Horses, horses, horses. Stormy and Dan were fun to play with the entire weekend. Here are a few from the back of the carriage.

Here’s one where Emily is giving Stormy a hug:

We spent a ton of time in Jon’s 1970s vintage motor boat. There were a few, shall we say “glitches”, but all in all, the boat treated us very well.

Here’s a short view of the channel.

Eric and Emily riding up on the bow as we go off into the sunset.

And finally, Casey drving the boat while Jon “directs.”

Of course, I’ll be putting a ton of pictures up on my Flickr photostream. So much fun.

Thanks again, Jon and Nan!

A weekend in the high desert

April 29, 2008 Leave a comment

Last weekend we took a quick trip out to Eastern Oregon to stay with friends at a home in the Black Butte Ranch resort community. It’s in a beautiful location, and we always enjoy getting out of town to spend quality time with friends. All of our lives are so busy these days, I really look forward to these little getaways.

We took a Saturday afternoon hike on the Metolius River from the campground to the Wizard Falls fish hatchery. Along the path we saw the awesome sight of a natural spring dumping out of the side of a hill into the river.

The Metolius is sure a fast-moving river.

Lillian found a cool wizard stick, proceeded to throw it into the river, and it came back to her. I think that we wore Andre out running to catch up to it.

A quick Star Wars Girl impression.

And the stick goes back from whence it came.

Finally, some of the semi-wild fish at one of the Wizard Falls hatchery ponds.
